AC/DC Single Stage Flyback PFC Driver

More and more, people are committed to find impactful ways to conserve energy in their homes and businesses. And yet simple solutions, such as LED lighting, have been cost-prohibitive, and thus out of reach for the mainstream consumer. With Marvell's single-chip, unique mixed-signal LED driver architecture, lighting designers can more easily build energy-efficient, superior lighting features and controls into lower cost mainstream professional and consumer products, enabling more widespread adoption of eco-friendly LED lighting.

88EM8080/88EM8081

Marvell's 88EM8080 and 88EM8081 are first-generation AC/DC LED driver chips from 8080 family. The 88EM8080 operates at a 60kHz switching frequency while 88EM8081 operates at a 120khz switching frequency. Based on Marvell's unique mixed-signal architecture and patented digital PFC technology, the 8080 family delivers industry leading performance in high power factor (> 0.99), low total harmonics distortion (< 10%), and high efficiency (up to 90%), as well as precise LED current control while operating over universal voltage inputs from 85VAC to 305VAC. Using the single-stage fly-back topology, the 8080/8081 reduces system BOM cost and space, enabling a range of mass consumer applications such as retrofit LED bulbs where cost and space are constrained.

A19 LED Reference Bulbs

Marvell provides manufacturing-ready designs for 40W incandescent replacement LED light bulbs. Designs include electrical, mechanical, thermal and optics elements. The designs are ready for Energy Star® (with exception of beaming angle), Lighting Facts, EMI/EMC, CE and UL safety requirements, allowing quick time-to-market for LED lighting OEMs and ODMs. The design package includes driver, mechanical design files, and test reports for thermal, colorimetric and electrical performance measurements.

  • Cree: The Cree A19 reference LED bulb uses the 88EM8081 with Cree XLamp XP-E HEW LEDs to offer high-efficiency, high power factor, and low BOM cost for cost-sensitive, space-constrained, and high-temperature operated retrofit bulb applications.
  • Lumileds: The Lumileds A19 reference LED bulb uses the 88EM8081 with Lumileds Luxeon A LEDs to offer high efficiency, high power factor, and low BOM cost for cost-sensitive, space-constrained, and high-temperature operated retrofit bulb applications.
