Marvell Discovery III™ System Controllers Named “Product of the Year”

Premier Design Resource Selects a Marvell Product for a Second Year Running

Sunnyvale, California (March 1, 2004) — Marvell®  (NASDAQ: MRVL), a technology leader in the development of extreme broadband communications and storage solutions, announced today that its Discovery III System controller family was named “Product of the Year” by analogZONE, an independent resource for the semiconductor industry.  The Marvell Discovery™ III system controller family was chosen for its high performance, broad platform integration, and wide adoption by major, worldwide customers.

“If there’s any truth to the old adage “the clothes make the man”, it’s also true that “the I/O makes the system, said Lee Goldberg, Editor-in-Chief, analogZONE”.  This is especially true in the case of Marvell’s Discovery III line of I/O controllers, which offer an excellent mix of must-have features and a bottleneck-free interconnect architecture.  Besides supplying an arsenal of interfaces that allow MIPS or PowerPC processors nearly unlimited connection capabilities, Discovery III makes extremely efficient use of the CPU’s resources.  It’s this combination of performance, innovation, and marketability that we look for when we select recipients for analogZONE’s Product Of The Year award.”

“We are honored to be recognized by analogZONE, a premier electronic design engineers resource, for a second year in a row,” said, Balaji Baktha, Marvell’s General Manager, Embedded and Emerging Business Unit.   “Marvell was chosen out of numerous products reviewed and was selected based on architectural innovation and overall product leadership.”

Discovery III Product Overview:

Discovery III system controllers are the industry's fastest system controller architecture for MIPS and PowerPC processor-based systems. Built upon Marvell's industry-standard Discovery platform, the Discovery III devices are optimally designed for a broad range of applications, from sophisticated routers, switches and wireless base stations to high-volume storage and laser printer applications. These innovative, feature-rich devices have received broad support from the industry's leading CPU vendors such as IBM, Motorola, and PMC-Sierra.
