Network Control Plane Applications

The Marvell Discovery Innovation SoC combined with Marvell’s high performance Sheeva cores is an ideal choice for networking control planes and switch management applications. The two Gigabit Ethernet (GbE) ports on the MV78100 (four on the MV78200) enhance network connectivity while the two PCI-Express (PCI-e) ports provide flexibility to connect to network backplane cards. Each PCI-e port can be configured as one lane of x4 or four lanes of x1 to enable up to eight different card connections, two x4 lanes for increased bandwidth or combinations thereof. The additional GbE port connected by a switch can also be used for backplane connections. In addition, the integrated clock generator and the USB 2.0 port with PHYs provide the option for using 32-bit or 64-bit DDR2 with ECC support. The booting options from NAND, NOR, or SPI flash provide network system designers with cost savings in BOM as well as added expansion capabilities.
