Switching

Through the first decade of the 21st century, classical networking solutions focused on "speed, feeds and connectivity". The basic paradigm for moving bits across the network, at best, meant a transition from Fast Ethernet to Gigabit Ethernet at the access and some degree of proliferation of wi-fi connectivity within the Enterprise, or moving from circuit switched to packet switched technologies in the Service Provider networks. Data centers were islands of disparate technologies and home networking translated into a way to share low bandwidth internet access.

Marvell has been pushing the evolution of these networks from moving bits to delivering exciting services and applications. A constant stream of technical innovations coupled with a diverse set of fast growing product lines have placed Marvell in an enviable position to champion the proliferation of next generation networks.

Enterprise

As enterprise networks continue to evolve, they are becoming a lot more than fat pipes. Connectivity and bandwidth are commodity. Modern day enterprise network clients are more heterogeneous than before. Desktops, notebooks, smart phones and other wireless devices place an increasingly varied and diverse demand on the network infrastructure. There is a new vocabulary for performance: productivity, collaboration, security and mobility are but some of the metrics that the infrastructure is graded by. Unified communications are accelerating the pace at which businesses continue to streamline operations while reducing costs. New business models in manufacturing, retail and service oriented economies are placing higher demands on reliability, flexibility and simplicity.
Marvell is building market leading solutions for next generation enterprise infrastructure. The Prestera®DX & EX family of Packet Processors, Alaska & Alaska X families of Ethernet Transceivers, Yukon family of Ethernet controllers, Discovery family of multi-core CPUs and Avistar family of wireless devices are some of the building blocks for new enterprise network architectures.

Data Center

Semiconductor economics, Web 2.0 technologies, increased broadband access coupled with innovative applications are accelerating change in the data center. No longer viewed as simple facilities for hosting servers, data centers are fast becoming a strategic investment as well as a business growth engine for hosting services. A variety of applications ranging from high speed financial transactions, search engines to high definition content streaming applications are placing unprecedented demands on management , flexibility, on-demand compute capabilities as well as service level security. Increased computing capabilities are creating challenges around power and cooling. Convergence of storage and networking in the data center is creating a slew of possibilities in simplifying the inherent complexities without compromising performance.

The Prestera CX family of 10GbE & 40Gb Packet Processors, AlaskaX family of Transceivers and Discovery family of multi-core CPUS put Marvell in the driver's seat, providing the key technologies and low power solutions needed to evolve and scale out the data center of tomorrow.

Service Providers & Carriers

Service providers depend on key innovations around high availability and resiliency to build mission critical networks without compromising on the desired service level agreements. In addition, intelligence is needed to support and interoperate with legacy transport and circuit switched technologies along with newer last mile access media. Along with the classic access and aggregation systems, new solutions are beginning to use Ethernet as an embedded switching and control fabric. New control plane and security protocols along with a wide variety of interface requirements are also driving the adoption of multi-core CPUs and custom system-on-chip solutions.
The Prestera DX and MX family of Packet processors, Kirkwood family of SoCs, Discovery family of multi-core CPU and Alaska family of Transceivers offer a complete portfolio of solutions for Service provider and Carrier systems.

Small Business

Simplification and convergence is the foundation of any successful small business solution. Leveraging economics of integration the small business owner and solutions provider can enable applications on a single platform, with capabilities previously available only in high-end enterprise solutions. Centralized management simplifies operation and reduces operation cost while increasing productivity.
Marvell's SMB switching solutions include the Prestera DX packet processor, Link Street switch and Kirkwood SoC families.

Digital Home

Digital pictures, video & audio streams in various digital formats are stored and consumed across the residential network. IP gateways and set-top boxes provide high bandwidth connectivity to external content. Marvell provides integrated networking devices that are specifically designed for the digital home of tomorrow. Solutions such as networked attached storage, media centers, IP phones, residential firewalls, wireless and wired gateway routers, access points, and standalone switches can be enabled by the LinkStreet family of switches and kirkwood SoCs.
