Soft AP Solutions
The Marvell Wireless Soft AP Solutions are complete reference designs that extend the functionality of a Marvell wireless client adapter card by adding Access Point (AP) and Repeater modes to existing client capabilities. This provides extended capabilities for emerging Media/Entertainment PCs in the home. Solutions are available for 802.11g/b and 802.11a/g/b standards in Mini PCI Type IIIB, PCI, USB 2.0 and WLAN on Motherboard form factors. All solutions are based on Marvell 2-chip client adapter solutions.
Marvell Soft AP supports the following operation modes:
- Station Mode: In this mode Soft AP operates as a wireless client supporting the features described herein. Station Mode allows connection to a wireless Access Point, or it can establish a peer-to-peer (Ad-Hoc) network with other wireless clients.
- Access Point (AP) Mode: In this mode, the Soft AP operates as a wireless Access Point. If the Soft AP is connected to a broadband Internet connection associated wireless clients can share an Internet connection, files, printers, and other network services. The Soft AP creates a Wireless LAN to Ethernet bridge using the existing Ethernet port on the computer in which it is installed.
- Repeater Mode: In this mode, the Soft AP works with another Marvell Soft AP to wirelessly extend the range of a wireless network. Wireless clients can connect to the Soft AP Repeater which then connects to a Soft AP on the network.
