88NV9145 - NATIVE PCIe SSD CONTROLLER
Rapid advances in host processor and networking technologies and the explosive growth of cloud computing have created a growing I/O bottleneck for data stored on traditional hard disk drives. The Marvell 88NV9145 breaks through this performance barrier by delivering the highest level of I/O performance from NAND flash directly to host processors via a native PCIe interface, eliminating unnecessary SAS or SATA conversion.
As the first native PCIe-to-NAND flash controller to enable modular scalability, the 88NV9145 supports a PCIe 2.0 x1 interface, ARM-based processor, external Double Data Rate (DDR) interface and four NAND flash channels with up to 4 Chips Selects per channel. Utilizing a low-latency non-blocking PCIe switch, two or more 88NV9145 devices can be configured to create scalable, high-performance native PCIe SSDs. The modular design also enables flexibility to adapt the performance, capacity, and cost requirements to different application market segments.
"...the Marvell 88NV9145 means systems vendors will have a cost-effective way to deliver popular high-performance PCIe SSDs in an easy and flexible fashion." Mark Peters, senior analyst at Enterprise Strategy Group
Key Benefits:
- Provides the highest level of random IOPS and throughput performance for enterprise and cloud computing applications, such as large-scale distributed web caches, virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) and mission-critical OLTP databases.
- Eliminates the unnecessary protocol overhead of either SAS or SATA conversion and optimizes for lower latency and higher bandwidth.
- Supports industry standard flash interfaces such as ONFI2 and Toggle mode, and all NAND types (MLC, SLC, eMLC, etc.)
- Modular design allows the creation of native PCIe SSDs in flexible configurations (eg. 2, 4, 8, 16+ modules) that incrementally scale in cost, capacity and performance for entry-level to high-end market segments.
