Marvell Advances Commitment to Environment with Climate Savers Computing Initiative Sponsorship and Innovative Energy Savings Program

Santa Clara, California (October 22, 2007) – arvell (NASDAQ: MRVL), a leader in storage, communications and consumer silicon solutions, today announced that it has joined the Climate Savers Computing Initiative at the sponsor level as part of its commitment to taking an active part in advancing the development of electronic products with increased energy efficiency. Marvell also provided an overview of its successful energy savings program at its Santa Clara headquarters.

The Climate Savers Computing Initiative is a nonprofit green organization started earlier this year by Google and Intel that brings together eco-conscious consumers, businesses and conservation organizations seeking to improve the energy efficiency and reduce the power consumption of computers and servers. Marvell’s decision to join the Initiative reflects the company’s continuing commitment to green technology. Marvell clearly recognizes the critical need to develop and implement green electronics, as both a supplier and a user of technology.

“As a sponsor of the Climate Savers Computing Initiative, Marvell has taken a leadership position in driving the industry to find cost-effective ways to reduce electricity consumption and greenhouse-gas emissions that contribute to climate change,” said Mark Bramfitt, PG&E’s representative on the Climate Savers Computing Initiative Board of Directors. “We applaud Marvell’s decision to join us in delivering sustainable computing options for both today’s consumers and for the future.”

“Marvell is committed to the development and use of green solutions—from the creation of energy-saving products for our customers to the choices we have made on our campus to reduce our carbon footprint,” said Hubie Notohamiprodjo, general manager, Industrial Control and Power Management, Marvell Semiconductor. “We have re-engineered the energy systems in our Santa Clara campus to embrace state-of-the-art solutions that allow us to not only ‘talk the talk’ but ‘walk the walk’ with overall energy savings and greater energy efficiency.”

Over the past two years, Marvell has implemented an energy savings program to substantially reduce energy consumption at the company’s corporate headquarters in Santa Clara. Marvell’s energy saving steps include:

  • Implementing DALI (Digital Addressable Lighting Interface) for computerized lighting control resulted in 60 percent less power usage than conventional lighting systems.
  • Switching to new T5-28W fluorescent bulb technology, which produces 40 percent brighter light while consuming 30 percent less power.
  • Adopting advanced electronic lighting ballast for 50 percent more energy savings compared with standard ballast.
  • Using motion detectors in rooms and hallways to dim the lights to 10 percent when the space is not in use. This saves 50 percent more energy without sacrificing comfort for employees.
  • Networking the HVAC throughout the entire campus to allow computer control of the system to maximize overall energy savings.
