Marvell and ASUS Team Up to Deliver the High-performance and Energy- efficient Qube with Google TV Media Streamer

Leveraging Marvell's award-winning ARMADA 1500 series SoC platform, ASUS delivers superior-quality Smart TV experience in a sleek and sophisticated form factor

Las Vegas and Santa Clara, California (January 8, 2013) – Marvell (NASDAQ: MRVL) today announced that the award-winning Marvell® ARMADA® 1500 series System-on-Chip (SoC) platform (88DE3100) will power the new ASUS Qube with Google TV media streamer. The device represents ASUS’s foray into the Smart TV market and demonstrates one of many ways the ARMADA 1500 series creates new business opportunities for device makers looking to take advantage of the connected living room market. Marvell and ASUS will demonstrate the ASUS Qube with Google TV at the 2013 Consumer Electronics Show (CES.)

The ASUS Qube with Google TV introduces a number of exciting capabilities to the Google TV ecosystem, including a mobile control application that is designed to enable users to control the device using a tablet or smartphone as a Smart remote. It also comes equipped with 50 gigabytes (GB) of free ASUS WebStorage cloud space, a movie player supporting local playback and a message board application that displays users’ instant messages on the Qube.

Powerful, energy-efficient, ultra-scalable and affordable, the ARMADA 1500 series SoC platform contains Marvell’s highest-performing ARM v7-compatible PJ4B SMP super-scalar dual-core CPU. The chip is designed to enable PC-like processing power to support Web browsing with support for Flash and other key technologies – with the aid of more than 6,000 Dhrystone MIPS of computing horsepower, FPU v3.0, 512 KB of L2 cache and NEON. With advanced, cellphone-like power management, the platform is also incredibly energy-efficient.

The ARMADA 1500 contains Marvell’s award-winning Qdeo® video processing for state-of-the-art HD and 3-D video, including scaling, noise reduction and de-interlacing. The chip offers VMeta™, a multi-format video decoder that can decode up to two simultaneous 1080p streams as well as a host of other video formats and containers.

The ASUS Qube comes equipped with HDMI input and output, two USB 2.0 ports, 802.11 b/g/n Wi-Fi, a 10/100 Base-T Ethernet port and a proprietary ASUS Qube user interface. The device is designed to support Google EPG TV and movie playback, local media file playback, one-touch play capabilities, remote control pass-through and DLNA media streaming. Applications available at launch will include Clock, Downloads, Google Chrome, Live TV, Music, Photos, PrimeTime, Play Store, Search, Settings, Spotlight and YouTube. ASUS Qube with Google TV will be available in U.S. market beginning late Q1 2013.

At the 2013 Consumer Electronics Show, ASUS will demonstrate the ASUS Qube with Google TV media streamer from 9 am to 6 pm Monday, Jan. 7, to Thursday, Jan. 10, at the Trump Hotel, 62nd floor. Marvell also will demonstrate ASUS’s latest offering at its booth, No. 31423, at CES, being held Tuesday, Jan. 8 to Friday, Jan. 11, at the Las Vegas Convention Center (3150 Paradise Road, Las Vegas).
