Mobile World Congress - Barcelona (February 16, 2009) – arvell® (NASDAQ: MRVL), an industry leader in storage, communications and consumer silicon solutions, today announced that several of the Company's OEM and ODM customers in China have selected Marvell PXA application processors for upcoming and currently shipping smartphones. These smartphones are based on Windows® Mobile and the Android open mobile phone software stack, and many run on TD-SCDMA, China's homegrown 3G technology which was recently licensed to China Mobile, the world's largest mobile operator. Marvell PXA-based handsets offer high performance at affordable prices in the cost-sensitive China market, as well as other emerging markets served by China-based OEMs and ODMs.
Leveraging the Company's early participation in the Open Handset Alliance for Android, and long history of development with Windows® Mobile and Linux platforms, Marvell has been able to help customers such as i-mate, Yuhua Tel, Techfaith, BYD, and SIMCom rapidly develop new smartphones with the PXA line of high-performance, low-power application processors. Marvell's complete platform solution including Wi-Fi and Bluetooth has also contributed to shortening the development cycle. Marvell PXA application processors support all 2G and 3G modems including TD-SCDMA. They also offer support for LCD resolutions from QVGA/WQVGA to VGA/WVGA and enable sleek phone styles ranging from full touch screens to QWERTY keyboards as well as GPS, mobile TV, and TV-out functionality. Marvell will be displaying several of these new smartphones at its booth (CY18) at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.
