Industry’s first reverse-powered FTTdp reference platform (Kraken)

Marvell announces the G.now™-based “Kraken” platform which provides gigabit data rates over standard phone wires, supporting EPON, GPON and Active Ethernet optical backhaul in collaboration with Microsemi Corporation (NASDAQ: MSCC). The Kraken reference platform integrates Microsemi’s Reverse Power Feeding (RPF) technology, allowing service providers to remotely power the FTTdp Distribution Point (DP) equipment from the Customer Premises Equipment (CPE) location over a distance of up to 250 meters. RPF is a key technology required by service providers in order to minimize the costs of deploying the next wave of gigabit access networks, by removing the need to install new power-delivery infrastructure for network equipment. The Kraken reference platform integrates Marvell’s Avanta-LP 88F6610 PON SoC, Marvell’s 88LX3142/88LX2718 G.hn chipset and Microsemi’s PD81001 RPF PSE and PD70101 RPF PD Chips. The Kraken reference platform, including schematics and board layout, is available now for global OEMs and ODMs.

Modular MDU switch for delivering gigabit broadband services over existing wireline infrastructure

Marvell and ReadyLinks, a leading supplier of broadband integration and communication solutions, will demonstrate a new modular system that combines a high-performance Prestera® Gigabit Switch with Marvell's award-winning G.hn transceivers to deliver gigabit-class broadband services over existing building infrastructure, including coaxial cables and phone-lines. ReadyLinks' IPC-1840 solution supports both coaxial-type and phoneline-type line-cards, allowing service providers to gradually add 4-port line cards as the number of subscribers increases. Each coaxial port supports up to eight users sharing the same coaxial cable segment. The solution is available today.

802.11ac-ready VDSL2 residential gateway platform

Marvell partners with Metanoia, a leading provider of semiconductor products for the wireline broadband market, to deliver a new Residential Gateway platform that combines Marvell’s 88F6660 Avanta®-LP System-on-Chip (SoC) with Metanoia’s MT-V2311 300 Mbit/s VDSL2 PHY to deliver a flexible, scalable and cost effective solution to the broadband service provider market. Marvell’s 88F6660 Avanta-LP SoC includes a flexible Universal PON MAC, a dual-core Cortex A9 ARM CPU at 1 GHz, an integrated 6-port Gigabit Ethernet switch, a programmable packet processor capable of wire-speed gigabit routing, two PCIe interfaces for Wi-Fi connectivity, USB3 and SATA for high-speed storage management and multiple voice ports. Avanta-LP is designed for seamless integration with Marvell’s advanced Avastar® 802.11ac Wi-Fi transceivers - with options for 4x4, 3x3 and 2x2 MIMO radios, and also with other home networking options such as G.hn and ZigBee. Metanoia’s VDSL2 solution offers outstanding performance while meeting key operators’ requirements, such as compliance with the latest ITU-T VDSL2 recommendations, including “vectoring-friendly” operation.
