Marvell strives to make positive contributions in the communities in which we work and live
At Marvell, we strive to make positive contributions in the communities where we work and live, and to provide opportunities for our employees to get involved with the charitable organizations we support. Our global corporate philanthropy program focuses on:
We support organizations that combat hunger and poverty. Marvell proudly sponsors the Second Harvest of Silicon Valley’s annual holiday campaign. In addition, Marvell holds an annual food drive at its Santa Clara campus, and offers employees several ways to participate, including a “Buy Lunch and Share” where the Marvell Cafeteria prepares a delicious holiday lunch with half of the purchase price donated directly to Second Harvest, payroll deducted cash contributions, 48-Hour Virtual Race to End Hunger, and year-round volunteer opportunities for employees. Dozens of our employees have donated their time at the group's food distribution center sorting and packaging food for individuals at risk for hunger.
Marvell also participates in the annual Thanksgiving Day Turkey Trot in San Jose, California. Our sponsorship includes the “Fittest Firm” competition, race registration fees for Marvell employees and a guest, and a booth in the Fittest Firm Area, where employees can grab a healthy snack and celebrate crossing the finish line with a souvenir photo from our photo booth. Marvell employees secured the Fittest Firm victory for the fourth consecutive year in 2019! More importantly, the proceeds from the Silicon Valley Turkey Trot benefit local charitable organizations including Healthier Kids Foundation Santa Clara County, Housing Trust Silicon Valley, Second Harvest Food Bank of Santa Clara and San Mateo Counties, Second Harvest Food Bank of Santa Cruz County and The Health Trust.
We promote STEM experiences for underrepresented groups—especially youth, girls, and women—with a focus on ensuring that the next generation of innovators is diverse and inclusive. Marvell is a proud supporter of the Tech Interactive in San Jose, California, and is a sponsor of the annual Tech Challenge and the Girls @ The Tech. We hold a lunch and learn with the Tech Challenge staff at our Santa Clara campus, to talk about the Tech Challenge and the various ways employees can get involved.
Marvell also supports the annual Notre Dame San Jose’s Women of Impact luncheon, which spotlights the role women have played in history, recognizes and celebrates those making significant contributions to society today and showcases the regional and global impact of developing meaningful and integrated learning programs for young women. Funds raised directly impact opportunities for young women to benefit from leadership programs in science, technology, engineering, the arts, and math (STEAM) at Notre Dame High School.
We give back to the communities in which we work and live. Marvell is proud to work with the Challenged Athletes Foundation (CAF), an organization dedicated to providing opportunities and support to people with physical challenges. Marvell also sponsors of the CAF Northern California Celebration of Heart, a gala held at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art which supports the CAF by providing volunteer opportunities for employees and raising awareness. CAF athletes participate in the annual Marvell 5K fun run too!
Marvell also supports Rebuilding Together, a non-profit organization that helps people and communities in need by bringing together a national network of local Rebuilding Together affiliates, corporate and individual donors, skilled trades individuals and almost 100,000 volunteers each year. Marvell sponsors National Rebuilding Day, where the largest nationwide group of volunteers come together each year to rehabilitate homes and community facilities and revitalize Peninsula communities.
In 2018, Marvell held its inaugural clothing drive for Dress for Success, a venerable international not-for-profit organization providing a network of support, professional attire and development tools to help women entering or re-enter the workforce. Last year, employees donated dozens of bags of gently worn professional clothing, shoes and accessories that filled two vehicles to the brim.
Marvell encourages employees to share in its passion for making a difference. We connect employees’ passions to philanthropy in the corporate social responsibility ecosystem in taking on global challenges and meeting community needs by providing matching funds to nonprofit organizations. Our employees have a long history of demonstrating generosity, whether through a food drive, a holiday giving program, or by donating their time volunteering or sharing their expertise, our employees show compassion to help communities in need. The success of those efforts is visible in the percentage of employees who participated in our various employee giving campaigns and time donated to volunteering opportunities. At Marvell, we are proud of our employees’ passion for giving back. In 2020, Marvell employee volunteer opportunities were limited due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
In the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, Marvell put into place multiple global programs supporting those disproportionately impacted by the pandemic. We created a $1.5 million Community Relief Fund to support local programs in the communities where we have a significant presence. In addition, we supported a special charitable giving match opportunity up to $2,500 for our employees, encouraging them to give what they could to help their local communities. Beneficiaries of our program included food banks, homelessness prevention systems, financial support foundations providing for those disproportionately impacted by COVID-19 and organizations providing health and safety assistance and other humanitarian aid to those at risk. In 2020, Marvell employees contributed $595,000 in donations through the Company Match Program. In addition to the fund, we donated the entirety of our cafeteria budget from our Santa Clara, California headquarters, a sum of approximately $250,000 per month, to the Second Harvest Food Bank of Silicon Valley. In 2020, our contributions to that organization totaled over $1,250,000. Collectively, we have provided more than $1.8 million to support those most in need.
In order to demonstrate our commitment to supporting diversity, equal rights, and racial justice in our communities, Marvell donated $125,000 to Color of Change and another $125,000 to the Equal Justice Initiative. Marvell also added these two organizations to the Company Match Program along with Campaign Zero, Know Your Rights Camp, and the Center for Policing Equity whose mission it is to fight racism and discrimination in our communities. In 2020, Marvell employees contributed approximately $30,000 in donations through the Company Match Program. Collectively, we have provided more than $285,000 to the fight against racial injustice.
Our teams at offices around the world are actively engaged with their communities in many creative and impactful ways.
Our Vermont Events Team brainstormed ways to continue to build a sense of community while working from home. So, rather than wait until things return to “normal”, the team pondered two main areas of concern: 1) Employees struggling to find balance between working from home, school closures, and tending to daily activities, and 2) watching small, locally owned restaurants struggling to find ways to keep their doors open and attract business to their new “curbside pick-up” model. The events team decided to use the events budget to provide employees with a $25 gift card to a select group of locally owned, independent restaurants. Employees were able to choose from a list of approximately 8 locally owned restaurants. This plan gave a needed break to employees and it provided a desperately needed cash infusion to the restaurants. Employees were encouraged to post a photo of themselves picking up their meal on the Burlington Employees Slack Channel.
In 2018 and 2019, Marvell made generous contributions to the India Prime Minister's National Relief Fund (PMNRF). The PMNRF is primarily used to provide relief to families of those affected by natural calamities like floods, cyclones and earthquakes etc., medical assistance to victims of major accidents and riots; victims of acid attacks; and financial assistance to indigent patients for treatment of major diseases like heart surgery, kidney transplantation and cancer treatment.
Promotion of Science and Technology Education Excellence:
Marvell Israel is engaged in several programs that motivate junior and senior high school students to invest in math and technology studies and become the next generation of engineers. This is done through lectures, on-site tours, hosting and fostering students and teaching basics computer skills and programming tools. In addition, we host and mentor high school hackathon events – a program dedicated to promoting projects that improve the well-being of the physically challenged community.
Our employees in Israel take part in joint activities designed to empower and strengthen self-confidence. For example, the Embedded Processor Platform team spent the afternoon with teens at a hostel, where together they “made over” the yard. Our Switch IP team adopted a foster home where young children live. Together they are having fun through empowering activities.
Good Deeds Day:
Marvell Israel traditionally takes part in the global ’Good Deeds Day’, a day that unites people from around the world to do good deeds for the benefit of others and the planet. At the last event we collected and distributed agricultural produce for those in need.
Supporting those with disabilities:
Marvell Israel supports two teams that promote the empowerment and social integration of disable athletes -- a running team of adults with visual disabilities and a biking team of children on the autistic spectrum. In addition, we take part in annual fundraising for the Etgarim Association: Israel Association for the Disabled.
