Friends of the San Francisco Commission on the Status of Women Presents Weili Dai with the CEDAW Women's Human Rights Award for Technology

Dai recognized for promoting equitable treatment and fostering the advancement of women and girls throughout San Francisco

Santa Clara, California (September 25, 2012) – Marvell (Nasdaq: MRVL) today announced that Weili Dai, co-founder of the company, was given the “Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW) Women’s Human Rights Award for Technology” by the Friends of the San Francisco Commission on the Status of Women. The award, which honors Dai’s role in leveraging technology to improve the lives of and opportunities for women in San Francisco, was presented by Marily Mondejar, President of the Friends of the San Francisco Commission on the Status of Women Board of Directors, and Julie Soo, President of the San Francisco Commission on the Status of Women, at a ceremony held today in San Francisco’s Merchants Exchange Building.

“I am incredibly humbled and honored to receive the CEDAW Women’s Human Rights Award for Technology from the Friends of the San Francisco Commission on the Status of Women. I am committed to continuing the work to ensure women and girls are given every opportunity to become the next generation of leaders in technology, business, education and more,” said Weili Dai, Co-founder of Marvell. “As a teenager, I arrived to San Francisco from Shanghai speaking almost no English and was very fortunate to continue my high school education in this great city and to attend college at UC Berkeley. Education is an important foundation for women and their continued advancement in the workforce and beyond. As a woman, I believe we can leverage our inherent strengths – the sense of responsibility, passion, compassion, and pride we dedicate to family and community – and apply them to business can make us the ‘x-factor’ in a new era of global growth and prosperity.”

Ms. Dai, who spent her teen years in San Francisco’s Sunset neighborhood, has been an outspoken advocate of women’s advancement in technology, science, math and business. Ms. Dai serves as co-chair of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Women and the Economy Summit steering committee and is a member of the Wall Street Journal’s Women in the Economy Executive Task Force. For her contributions to technology and society, Newsweek named Ms. Dai one of the “150 Women Who Shake the World.” In addition, Forbes Magazine lists Ms. Dai as one of the “World’s 100 Most Powerful Women.”

“Weili Dai and her commitment to technology and its role in ensuring human rights and empowering everyone, regardless of gender, is an inspiration for women in San Francisco and beyond,” said Julie Soo, President of the San Francisco Commission on the Status of Women. “I am proud to present her with this well-deserved award, appreciative of her contributions thus far and look forward to deepening our relationship to further benefit our community.”
