Santa Clara, California (June 2, 2008) – Marvell (NASDAQ: MRVL), a leader in storage, communications and consumer silicon solutions, today introduced Sheeva™, the company's next-generation internally developed CPU technology, raising the bar on performance and low power consumption for embedded CPU applications. Sheeva will be integrated in a broad range of Marvell® system-on-a-chip (SoC) products spanning mobile, consumer and enterprise infrastructure applications.
Leveraging Marvell's deep expertise in embedded CPU technology, including the prior generation of Feroceon® CPUs as well as the Company's acquisition of Intel's XScale® technology, Marvell's Sheeva embedded CPU is highly scalable, in terms of die size, performance and power consumption, depending on the needs of a specific application.
"With the introduction of Sheeva, Marvell is demonstrating our industry leadership in ultra high-performance, low power embedded CPU technology," said Dr. Sehat Sutardja, chairman, president and CEO of Marvell. "Sheeva is designed to bring PC-like performance to many consumer and business products, while consuming a fraction of the power normally used by a PC."
Already, many of Marvell's SoC products incorporate an internally developed ARM-instruction set compatible processor. With Sheeva, Marvell will boost the performance of products addressing its core markets including mobile, storage, enterprise and cellular applications, as well as pursing new market opportunities.
"Marvell has done an excellent job of delivering a complete features set while using its ARM instruction set compatible CPU design and 65nm technology to gain a cost and power advantage," said Linley Gwennap, president and principle analyst, the Linley Group.
Marvell's Sheeva CPU technology is now available in the new Marvell 86F6000 series of SoCs for notebooks and PCs and has been implemented in the previously announced Discovery Innovation Series of SoCs for the Enterprise.
