In the 2026 EDGE awards, the Marvell® COLORZ® 1600 2nm 1.6T ZR/ZR+ pluggable optical platform won the Machine Vision and Optical Components & Systems category.
Electronic Design presented this year’s winners and honorees to celebrate recent design and engineering feats that excel in the industry. These innovations are pushing the bounds and represent the leading “EDGE” of technology.
Marvell COLORZ 1600 is the industry’s first 1.6T ZR/ZR+ data center interconnect (DCI) pluggable. Powered by Marvell Electra, the industry’s first 2nm 1.6T ZR/ZR+ coherent DSP, the device delivers efficient, high-performance and secure optical transmission for hyperscale AI and cloud networks globally. The pluggable is purpose-built for long-distance links; COLORZ 1600 connects campus (20km), metro (120km) and regional (1,000km) data centers at 1.6T.
With generative AI growing rapidly and reshaping data center architecture, infrastructure is evolving from isolated facilities to multi-site campuses and regional AI clusters. This drives the need for high-capacity, energy-efficient DCI to move data between centers. COLORZ reduces system complexity and improves power efficiency, enabling hyperscalers to scale faster.
Marvell was also named as an honoree in the Electronic Components category for its Structera® S 60260 PCIe 6.0 switch. Structera S is the industry’s first 260-lane PCIe 6.0 switch, marking a new performance standard for PCIe scale-up performance. Traditional PCIe switch architectures require multiple devices to scale, which ranks up design complexity and cost, but Marvell Structera S flattens the network, enabling higher density and lower latency, improving the overall system efficiency. Structera S switch devices are also available for CXL applications.
