Most of the data breaches we read about in the headlines, which have affected hundreds of millions of customers at prominent companies, have involved data that wasn’t encrypted. A recent McAfee survey of 12,000 companies that revealed only 9% encrypt their data at rest in the cloud, and only 1% are using customer-managed encryption keys.
